Karan Johar's famous couch is back for one last round. Koffee With Karan Season 9 premieres today, Wednesday, October 14, on The Peacock Hub on JioHotstar, and the opening guest is none other than Salman Khan. Johar has confirmed that this will be the final season of the celebrity chat show he launched in 2004.
For a show that has produced more viral clips, headlines and memes than almost any other Indian TV format, saying goodbye with Salman as the first guest is a statement in itself.
Salman Khan opens the final season
Johar announced the premiere guest with a promo on Instagram, calling the season "one last time" and inviting fans to a koffee with "the one & only bhaii". In the promo, Johar asks Salman whether the show can go all out now that it is the last season. Salman's reply is a short, typically deadpan "Jayega, jayega."
Salman will be the only guest in the opening episode, which has already been shot. That alone sets this one apart. He has sat on the couch before, alongside his brothers Arbaaz and Sohail Khan in one episode and with his father Salim Khan in another, but a solo episode with the superstar has long been on fans' wish lists.

Who else could be on the couch?
Johar has not officially announced the full guest list yet, but entertainment reports have named several likely pairings. These include Alia Bhatt with her sister Shaheen Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra with Kiara Advani, Vijay Deverakonda with Rashmika Mandanna, siblings Ibrahim Ali Khan and Sara Ali Khan, and younger stars such as Vedang Raina and Sharvari. Some reports also mention Kareena Kapoor Khan with Saif Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan with Janhvi Kapoor. Until the makers confirm, treat these names as speculation.
If the reported line-up holds, the season will mix old Koffee favourites with a new generation of actors who grew up watching the show.
Why Koffee With Karan matters
Over two decades, Koffee With Karan became much more than a chat show. Its rapid fire round, the koffee hamper and the famous "koffee quiz" turned throwaway answers into front-page news. Stars have used the couch to launch films, settle rumours and, sometimes, start new controversies. Many careers and friendships have been discussed, dissected and debated because of a single answer on the show.
The show has also had its share of trouble. Some past episodes drew strong criticism for remarks made on the couch, and the format has often been accused of being too inside-Bollywood. Johar himself has joked about it in later seasons. Even so, every new season has drawn huge interest online.

What it means for viewers
For fans, the final season is a chance to see how Johar signs off a show that defined celebrity TV in India. With streaming now the main home for the series, episodes can be watched any time after release, and clips are expected to flood social media within hours, as they usually do.
For Salman's fans, the premiere is also a rare look at the actor in a long, relaxed conversation format, away from his reality show hosting duties.
What happens next
New episodes are expected to roll out weekly after the premiere, with Johar likely to reveal guests through promos a few days before each episode. Keep an eye on his social media for the next announcement. With this being the last season, expect a few surprise guests and maybe a big finale episode that looks back at 20-plus years of Koffee.
