Vijay Salgaonkar has done it again. Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 3: The Conclusion crossed the Rs 300 crore net mark at the Indian box office on its tenth day, Sunday, October 11, according to early estimates from trade tracker Sacnilk. The thriller collected around Rs 23 crore on its second Sunday, taking its 10-day India net total to roughly Rs 309.50 crore.

With that, the final chapter of the Drishyam franchise has gone past the lifetime numbers of both Drishyam 2 and Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, and is being reported as the biggest hit of Ajay Devgn's career.

How the second weekend shaped up

After a first week of Rs 245.50 crore, the film's numbers had cooled to the low teens by its first Thursday, which is normal for a big release. The second Friday came in at about Rs 14.50 crore, but Saturday jumped to around Rs 26.50 crore, nearly double. Sunday held strongly at about Rs 23 crore, a sign that word of mouth is still bringing families back to theatres.

Occupancy tells a similar story. The film ran at about 60% on its opening day and was still pulling roughly 26% to 29% occupancy across nearly 15,000 shows on its second weekend, according to Sacnilk's data.

Ajay Devgn's biggest film yet

For Ajay Devgn, this is a career milestone. Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020) and Drishyam 2 (2022) had long been his top-grossing films. Reports on Monday said Drishyam 3 has now overtaken both, and it is still running strong in its second week.

About the film

Directed by Abhishek Pathak, who also helmed Drishyam 2, the film brings back Ajay Devgn as Vijay Salgaonkar, the cable operator who will go to any length to protect his family. Tabu returns as former IG Meera Deshmukh, alongside Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, Mrunal Jadhav and Rajat Kapoor. The cast also includes Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj. Billed as The Conclusion, the film is positioned as the final chapter of the Hindi Drishyam story that began in 2015.

Why the film is working

Much of the credit goes to the franchise itself. Audiences have followed the Salgaonkar family for over a decade, and the promise of a final showdown between Vijay and Meera drew curious viewers on day one. The strong second-weekend jump suggests word of mouth and family audiences are helping the film hold up well beyond its opening weekend.

What it means for Bollywood

The film's run is good news for theatre owners heading into the festive season. Franchise films with a loyal family audience have been the most reliable earners at the Hindi box office, and Drishyam 3 has shown that a well-loved thriller can still bring people back to cinemas weeks after release, even without a big holiday on its opening weekend.

What's next at the box office

The real test begins on Monday, when weekday collections usually drop. If the film holds in double digits through the week, trade watchers expect it to keep climbing comfortably in its third weekend. It will also face competition from upcoming releases, including Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, which has already opened strong advance bookings overseas. All eyes are now on how far the worldwide total can go, with the Rs 500 crore gross mark already in sight.
