If you are a graduate who has been waiting for a big railway notification, this is the one. Indian Railways has opened applications for 3,548 graduate-level posts under the Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) through Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) No. 06/2026, and the online window stays open only until 6 November 2026. The Ministry of Railways confirmed the numbers on Sunday, 11 October, and the largest share of seats, 2,750, is for the post of Goods Train Manager.

What the RRB NTPC Graduate 2026 notification covers

The recruitment is being run by the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) for four categories of jobs spread across commercial services, train operations, accounts and office administration. For most aspirants, the headline figure is the Goods Train Manager vacancy count. With nearly four out of every five posts in that one category, it is clearly where the competition and the opportunity will be biggest this cycle.

A welcome change for typist posts

One detail that will cheer many candidates: for the Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist and Senior Clerk Cum Typist posts, the Computer-Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST) has been dispensed with in this notification. That does not mean typing does not matter. The ministry says candidates are still expected to have basic computer and typing skills, which will be assessed after joining.

Selection process explained

Selection is purely merit-based and happens in stages:

  1. CBT 1 – a first-stage Computer-Based Test that works as a screening round.
  2. CBT 2 – the second-stage Computer-Based Test, which decides merit.
  3. Document Verification – original certificates are checked against the application.
  4. Medical Examination – as applicable to the post opted for.

The notification also provides reservation and age-relaxation benefits as per rules, along with scribe assistance and compensatory time for eligible candidates with disabilities. The ministry has also highlighted examination fee refund provisions for eligible candidates; the exact amounts and conditions are listed in the detailed notification.

How to apply for RRB NTPC Graduate 2026

  1. Go to the official application portal, rrbapply.gov.in.
  2. Create an account (or log in if you registered for an earlier RRB exam) using a working mobile number and email ID.
  3. Choose CEN 06/2026 and select your RRB and the posts in order of preference.
  4. Fill in personal and educational details carefully – your name and date of birth must match your certificates.
  5. Upload a recent photograph and signature in the specified format.
  6. Pay the examination fee online before 8 November 2026.
  7. Download and keep a copy of the submitted application.

Tip: Do not leave it to the last week. RRB portals usually see heavy traffic near the deadline, and payment failures at the eleventh hour are common.

What it means for job seekers in India

Railway jobs remain among the most sought-after government jobs in the country because of job security, a clear pay ladder and nationwide postings. NTPC exams in particular draw lakhs of applicants because the eligibility is broad – any graduate can apply. With 3,548 seats on offer, the cut-off will depend heavily on how many people apply and how tough CBT 2 turns out to be.

For freshers in states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, where railway exams have a huge following, this notification gives a solid target for the next few months. The syllabus usually covers general awareness, mathematics, and general intelligence and reasoning, so candidates can start with previous papers right away.

What happens next

After the application window shuts on 6 November and the correction window closes on 18 November, RRBs will release the application status and, later, the exam city slip and admit card for CBT 1. Exam dates have not been announced yet. The Ministry of Railways has advised candidates to rely only on the official RRB websites for updates and to avoid fake job portals and agents promising seats.
