Telugu audiences are getting their own version of one of the world's most talked-about reality games. The Traitors Telugu premieres on Amazon Prime Video on Thursday, October 15, with actor Teja Sajja stepping in as host for the first time. Twenty well-known faces from films, music and social media will try to outwit, out-talk and outlast each other over 10 episodes.

The trailer, released on October 6, set the tone with Prime Video's line promising "the ultimate betrayal". For Teja Sajja, best known for his superhero hit HanuMan, this is a big change of role, from leading man to the person running the game.

Since episodes drop weekly rather than all at once, the season will run for several weeks, giving fans plenty of time to guess who the Traitors are before the big reveals.

To watch, viewers need an active Amazon Prime membership. The show will be available on the Prime Video app on phones, smart TVs and streaming devices, as well as on the Prime Video website, from noon on premiere day.

How the game works

The Traitors is built on a simple but nerve-wracking idea. At the start, a few contestants are secretly chosen as "Traitors". Everyone else is an "Innocent", and nobody knows who is who.

  1. The Traitors quietly eliminate Innocents one by one, while pretending to be on the same side.
  2. The Innocents work together on missions and try to spot the liars among them.
  3. At regular round-table meetings, the group votes out the player they suspect most.
  4. If the Innocents catch all the Traitors before the end, they win. If even one Traitor survives to the finale, the Traitors take the game.

The result is a show that is less about physical tasks and more about trust, body language and clever talk. That is exactly why it has worked in so many countries, including the Hindi version in India.

What Teja Sajja said about hosting

Speaking about the new role, Teja Sajja said, "Hosting The Traitors Telugu has been a completely new experience for me." He also called the show a milestone for the industry: "For Telugu entertainment, I think this is a big moment." He explained that the show brings an international format to regional viewers while giving it a clear Telugu identity.

Why this matters for Telugu entertainment

For years, Bigg Boss Telugu has dominated the reality space in the Telugu states. The Traitors offers something different: a shorter, sharper season built around strategy and deception, made for streaming rather than daily television.

It also shows how seriously streaming platforms are now taking regional audiences. Instead of dubbing a Hindi or English show, Prime Video has built a separate Telugu edition with local celebrities and a popular young star as host. If it works, more global formats could get Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam versions of their own.

The launch lands in a busy week for Tollywood fans, with Vijay Deverakonda's Ranabaali opening in theatres the following day.

What happens next

The first episodes arrive on October 15 at noon, and new ones will follow every Thursday. Expect social media to light up with fan theories about who the Traitors are from the very first round table. The only question that matters for the rest of the season: who can you really trust?
