Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff had a narrow escape on Sunday evening when unidentified men opened fire at his car in Mumbai's upmarket Juhu neighbourhood. The shooting took place near Pushpa Park, under the jurisdiction of Juhu police station, at around 7 pm. Police have confirmed that the actor did not suffer any gunshot wounds, but his driver was hurt in the attack and the shooters escaped before anyone could stop them.
The incident has rattled the film industry and set off a major manhunt across the city. Within hours, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reached the Shroff residence and promised the family that the government would leave no stone unturned.
What happened in Juhu on Sunday evening
According to the police, Tiger was leaving after a football session and a private engagement when the attack took place. Preliminary information suggests that three men arrived on a motorcycle, fired at his vehicle and fled. Several people in the area reportedly thought the first sounds were firecrackers, which is not unusual in Mumbai in the days before Diwali.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Garg said the actor was "completely safe" and that an investigation had been started. Footage that appears to show the shooting has been widely shared on social media, though police have not commented on its authenticity.
Accounts of the number of rounds fired differ. Some reports put the figure at three, while Shinde told reporters after meeting the actor that five rounds were fired. Shinde also said Tiger had minor injuries on his left hand caused by gunpowder and broken glass, which explains why images of the actor with bandages surfaced late on Sunday night.
Who was injured
Tiger's driver was the main casualty. Reports say he was hit in the arm or hand and is receiving treatment. A second person in the vicinity was also hurt, though details about this person have varied between outlets. Police have not said that anyone's injuries are life-threatening.

Eknath Shinde: 'No form of threat will be tolerated'
Shinde visited the Shroff home late on Sunday and met Tiger and his mother, Ayesha Shroff. He said the family was shaken and that the state government would provide all the help they needed. He also said he had spoken to Jackie Shroff.
"No form of threat will be tolerated," Shinde said, adding that the state would put an end to what he called hooliganism. Recalling the gang wars that once gripped Mumbai, he said such violence was common in the 1990s before the police brought it under control. Shinde said he had spoken to Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti and that several teams had been formed to track down the shooters. He also announced that the government would review security arrangements for all celebrities in the state.
The investigation so far
Reports suggest that around 15 police teams are working on the case. Investigators are going through CCTV footage from the area, questioning witnesses and collecting ballistic evidence from the spot. Some reports say one person has been detained for questioning, but police have not officially named any suspect or announced an arrest.
Social media posts claiming to speak for people linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang have taken responsibility for the attack, and some of these messages mention threats to people close to Salman Khan. Police have not confirmed that these claims are genuine, and they remain one of several lines of inquiry. Until investigators establish the motive, it is wise to treat such online claims with caution.
Why this matters for Mumbai and Bollywood
Juhu is home to some of the biggest names in Hindi cinema, and a shooting on its streets in the early evening is deeply unsettling for residents and the film fraternity. For fans, the immediate relief is that Tiger, known for his action roles in the Baaghi and Heropanti franchises, is safe. But the bigger question is about safety in the city, especially for public figures who are recognised wherever they go.
The government's promise to review celebrity security could mean tighter protection for actors, more police presence in areas like Juhu and Bandra, and closer monitoring of threats made online. Industry insiders have already called for faster action against people who issue threats on social media.
What happens next
The priority for Mumbai Police is to identify and catch the three men on the motorcycle and establish who sent them. Investigators will also try to piece together the attackers' route, the number of shots fired and how they escaped. Any formal update on detentions, arrests or the motive is expected to come from the Mumbai Police in the coming days. We will update this story as official information becomes available.
