Shah Rukh Khan turned 61 on November 2, and instead of only waving to fans, he handed them a song. Tu Mil Jaaye, the first track from his upcoming action film King, dropped at midnight on his birthday. It brings back one of Hindi cinema's most loved on-screen pairs, SRK and Deepika Padukone, and adds a surprise international voice: Ed Sheeran.
The song is sung by Arijit Singh, Ed Sheeran and Madhubanti Bagchi, with music by Sachin-Jigar and lyrics by Kumaar.

What the song looks like
Set largely along a beachfront, Tu Mil Jaaye starts out as a breezy romantic number, with Shah Rukh and Deepika sharing easy chemistry against sand and sea. But it doesn't stay soft for long. The video cuts into action sequences with gunfire, hinting at the darker world of the film, where Khan's character is shown smuggling guns and weapons.
That mix of romance and violence is a clear signal of what director Siddharth Anand, who made Pathaan, is going for: a stylish, high-stakes action entertainer with a love story at its heart.
The Ed Sheeran factor
The biggest talking point is Ed Sheeran's presence on the track. The British singer-songwriter teams up again with Arijit Singh, after the two collaborated on Sapphire in 2025. Arijit carries the Hindi vocals, while Sheeran's English part gives the song a crossover feel that could help it travel well beyond Indian audiences. Madhubanti Bagchi is also credited as a singer.
Why fans are excited
Shah Rukh and Deepika have a long history together, starting with her debut opposite him in Om Shanti Om and continuing through several hits. Every reunion of the pair draws huge attention, and King is their latest outing together.
The film also has a large ensemble. Gulf News reports the cast includes Abhishek Bachchan, Suhana Khan in her big-screen debut, Rani Mukerji, Raghav Juyal, Arshad Warsi and Jaideep Ahlawat alongside the lead pair.
In a social media post shared with the song, Khan wrote a poetic caption that ended with a promise for December and the hashtag #LoveLikeAKing.
A different kind of birthday
This year, Shah Rukh skipped his customary midnight appearance on the balcony of Mannat, his Mumbai home, which is undergoing reconstruction. Fans who gathered outside were instead greeted with a handwritten note on a giant screen and posters of King. The song release made up for the missing wave, at least online.
Siddharth Anand and SRK, together again
Siddharth Anand and Shah Rukh Khan last worked together on Pathaan, which turned into one of the biggest hits of the actor's career and marked his big-screen comeback after a long break. King is being produced by Khan's own Red Chillies Entertainment along with Anand's Marflix Pictures, so expectations from both camps are high. The music team of Sachin-Jigar, known for chartbusters across Hindi films, has been handed the job of giving the film a strong soundtrack, and the first song suggests they are aiming for a mix of melody and scale.
For Suhana Khan, the film is also a major moment, as it marks her big-screen debut alongside her father. That family angle has added to the curiosity around every update from the film.
Where to watch and what comes next
The music video is available on YouTube through the T-Series and Zee Music Company channels. With King set to hit cinemas on December 24, Christmas Eve, more songs, a trailer and promotional events are expected over the next seven weeks.
For now, Tu Mil Jaaye has done its job: it has put SRK and Deepika back on everyone's playlist and set the tone for SRK's big year-end release.
