Engineering aspirants have exactly two weeks left to apply for the first session of JEE Main 2027. The National Testing Agency (NTA) opened registration on October 24 on its official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in, and the last date to apply without a late fee is November 22, 2026. The Session 1 exam is scheduled for January 2027, with Session 2 in April.
With the deadline falling just after the Diwali break, students who have been putting off the form should finish it soon rather than wait for the final night, when servers tend to slow down.

JEE Main 2027 Application Fee
The fee depends on your category, gender and whether you take one paper or both. For a single paper at a centre in India, the fees are:
- General male: Rs 1,000; General female: Rs 800
- Gen-EWS / OBC-NCL male: Rs 900; female: Rs 800
- SC / ST / PwD / Transgender: Rs 500
Candidates taking both Paper 1 (BE/BTech) and Paper 2 (BArch/BPlanning) pay double: Rs 2,000 for General, EWS and OBC male candidates, Rs 1,600 for female candidates in these categories, and Rs 1,000 for SC, ST, PwD and transgender candidates. Fees are higher for exam centres outside India, starting at Rs 5,000 for General male candidates for one paper.
Who Can Apply
Students who have passed Class 12 or are appearing for the Class 12 board exam in 2027 can apply. There is no minimum percentage to sit JEE Main itself, but admission to IITs, NITs and other centrally funded institutes has its own Class 12 criteria, so check those before planning your options.

What It Means for Students
JEE Main is the gateway to NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded technical institutes, and the qualifying step for JEE Advanced, which leads to the IITs. Most students sit both sessions and the better score counts, so applying for Session 1 on time gives you an extra attempt. A clean, error-free form also avoids trouble later at the admit card and counselling stage.
A few practical tips: make sure your name and date of birth match your Aadhaar and Class 10 records exactly, choose exam cities you can actually reach on the day, and do not submit multiple applications, as NTA treats duplicate forms seriously.
What Happens Next
After November 22, a short late-fee window runs until November 26. NTA is expected to open a correction window soon after for candidates to fix mistakes in their forms. The exam city intimation slip and admit cards will follow ahead of the January exam. Keep an eye on the official website and your registered email for updates.
