Diljit Dosanjh's fans in Delhi have been left in limbo after Delhi Police refused permission for the singer's October 30 concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The show was meant to open the India leg of his Aura India Tour, but the South District police said the request "cannot be acceded to", citing specific threat-related inputs and the heavy security load of the festive season.

As of Thursday, neither Diljit's team nor ticketing partner BookMyShow had announced a cancellation, a new venue or a fresh date, and the event was still listed on the platform.

What the Delhi Police letter says

According to reports, BookMyShow Live applied for permission on October 14. On October 21, the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) wrote back declining the request. The letter pointed to three reasons:

  1. Specific threat-related inputs received by the police.
  2. Security commitments during the ongoing festive season.
  3. Other law-and-order considerations.

Police have not publicly explained the nature of the threat. Some reports said security agencies had received anonymous threatening emails about the singer's upcoming stadium shows, but there has been no official confirmation of their content.

Why the date had already changed once

The Delhi show was originally planned for November 1. It was shifted to October 30 after Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney asked organisers to avoid the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh violence. "For thousands of families, those days are still full of grief," Sahney wrote on X. BookMyShow had then said November 1 tickets would stay valid for the new date, and that buyers who could not attend on October 30 could ask for a refund.

Why festive-season security matters

Late October and early November are among the busiest weeks of the year for Delhi Police, with Diwali crowds, markets running late into the night and several large public events taking place across the city. A stadium concert of this size typically needs thousands of personnel for crowd control, traffic diversions and frisking at the gates. When police also have specific threat inputs on record, they are generally reluctant to stretch resources further. Whether organisers seek a fresh review with a revised security plan remains to be seen.

Political reactions

The decision quickly drew political responses. Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bhardwaj called the denial "India's misfortune" and alleged that artists who speak against the government are being targeted, pointing to Diljit's past support for protesting farmers. The police letter itself cites only security inputs and festive-season duties as the grounds for the decision.

What it means for ticket holders

For now, fans who bought tickets should hold on to their booking confirmation and watch for official messages from BookMyShow and Diljit's team. No refund process has been announced specifically for this denial. If the show is cancelled or moved, the organisers are expected to share refund or transfer options, as they did when the date changed earlier.

Fans should be wary of resale offers and "new date" messages circulating on social media unless they come from the official handles of the singer or the ticketing platform.

The rest of the Aura India Tour

The other announced dates of the tour are so far unaffected:

  • Indore – November 15
  • Ahmedabad – November 21
  • Mumbai – November 27
  • Bengaluru – November 29
  • Lucknow – December 5
  • Chandigarh – planned, date yet to be announced

What happens next

Organisers could seek fresh permission with a revised security plan, look at a different date, or move the opening show elsewhere. Diljit has played Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium before, during his Dil-Luminati tour in 2024, when huge crowds turned up. With the festive season in full swing and police citing specific inputs, any decision on Delhi is likely to depend on a fresh security review. ViralDose will update this story when the singer's team or BookMyShow announces the next step.
