Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana passed its first big test at the box office. On its second day, Friday 6 November, the mythological epic with Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Yash as Ravana earned about Rs 48 crore net in India, according to trade tracker Sacnilk. That took its two-day domestic net total to around Rs 112.9 crore. Worldwide, the film has crossed the Rs 200 crore gross mark in just two days.
Day 2 numbers in detail
The film opened on Thursday, 5 November, with Rs 64.85 crore net in India (Sacnilk), one of the biggest openings for a Hindi-led film. The second day was lower, which is normal for a Thursday release moving into a regular working Friday. Still, Rs 48 crore on a non-holiday weekday is a very strong number.
Sacnilk's two-day language-wise numbers show that the Hindi version is clearly leading, while the South Indian dubs are also contributing well:
| Language | Two-day India net (approx.) |
| Hindi | Rs 83 crore |
| Kannada | Rs 12.40 crore |
| Telugu | Rs 10.75 crore |
| Tamil | Rs 4.10 crore |
| Malayalam | Rs 2.65 crore |
| Total India net | Rs 112.90 crore |
| Total India gross | Rs 134.80 crore |
| Overseas gross | Rs 86.25 crore |
| Worldwide gross | About Rs 221 crore |
Kannada is in second place, which is not surprising since Yash, the KGF star, plays Ravana. Bollywood Hungama has a separate estimate for the Hindi version: about Rs 37 crore on Friday and around Rs 82 crore over two days, which is close to Sacnilk's number.
Occupancy and the weekend outlook
Friday's overall occupancy was about 28.5%, and night shows were much busier at over 45%. This pattern usually points to strong word of mouth among families and working audiences who go after office hours.
Advance bookings for Saturday were very strong. By Friday morning, the film had sold more than 13 lakh tickets for Day 3, worth about Rs 47 crore. Bengaluru led the cities, followed by Mumbai, the NCR and Hyderabad. Trade watchers expect Saturday and Sunday to be bigger than Friday, and some expect the film's first-week total to be very large. These are only projections, and the actual weekend numbers will show where the film really stands.
The makers' numbers vs trade estimates
As with most big releases, the numbers depend on who is reporting them. For Day 1 worldwide, Sacnilk estimated about Rs 127.5 crore gross, while the makers said Rs 155 crore. On Friday, the film's official handle also said Ramayana had crossed Rs 200 crore worldwide, calling it the start of "Ram ke Yug". The independent trade estimates and the official numbers both agree that the film crossed this mark in two days.
Why Ramayana matters
Ramayana is produced by Namit Malhotra along with Yash, and is planned as two parts with a combined budget of about Rs 4,000 crore. It is widely described as the most expensive film franchise in Indian cinema. Along with Ranbir and Yash, the cast includes Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey, Arun Govil, Lara Dutta and Rakul Preet Singh. Anupam Kher voices Jatayu.
With a budget this large, a strong opening was not enough. The film needs to hold well over many weeks. The second-day numbers suggest audiences outside metros are also coming in, especially for the dubbed versions. If the weekend numbers are good, the makers will be more confident about Part 2, which is reportedly planned for Diwali 2028.
The South Indian numbers are worth noting too. Together, the Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam versions have earned almost Rs 30 crore net in two days. For a film made mainly in Hindi, that is a sign that the story and the casting of Yash are working across the country, not just in the Hindi belt.
What to watch next
The next numbers to look for are the Saturday and Sunday collections, and then how the film performs on Monday. A good Monday hold would tell us whether Ramayana can become a long-running hit, not just a big opener. With the Diwali holidays coming soon, the film also has a good run of festive days ahead.
