Venkatesh's new family entertainer Aadarsha Kutumbam House No. 47, better known as AK 47, has crossed the Rs 50 crore mark worldwide in its first weekend. The Trivikram Srinivas film opened in theatres on Friday, October 30, and topped the Indian box office over the October 30 to November 1 weekend, ahead of Rajinikanth's Jailer 2.
The numbers look healthy on paper. Trade watchers, however, say a film of this scale was expected to start bigger, and its real test begins on Monday.
AK 47 Box Office Collection: The Weekend Numbers
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, AK 47 earned Rs 31.40 crore net in India over its first three days. Sunday was its best day, with Rs 11.25 crore net (about Rs 13.25 crore gross) from more than 3,200 shows across the country.
Its India gross stands at roughly Rs 36.85 crore, while overseas markets added Rs 14.10 crore, taking the worldwide gross to about Rs 50.95 crore. The film has also crossed the $1 million mark in the US, a milestone Venkatesh has now reached with five films.
Pinkvilla's estimate is a little higher, at around Rs 35.50 crore gross in India for the weekend, with Sunday showing about 10 percent growth over Saturday. As always with trade figures, these are estimates and can differ between trackers.

Where the Film Is Earning
Unsurprisingly, the Telugu states carry the film. Pinkvilla's territory breakdown puts Nizam (Telangana) at about Rs 14 crore gross and Andhra at Rs 11.75 crore, with Ceded adding Rs 3.25 crore. Karnataka has chipped in around Rs 4.75 crore, and the rest of India close to Rs 2 crore.
Show counts tell the same story. On Sunday, Hyderabad alone had around 582 shows, Bengaluru about 400 and Chennai about 152.
What the Film Is About
Venkatesh plays Chittibabu, a family man whose search for a home with his wife Swarna, played by Srinidhi Shetty, spirals into a mix of comedy, family drama and action. Nivetha Pethuraj, Nara Rohith, Rao Ramesh, Satya, Brahmaji and Vennela Kishore are part of the supporting cast.
Reviews have been mixed. The Hollywood Reporter India called the film too safe to work as a subversive family drama, though it acknowledged a certain comfort in its predictable beats. That comfort factor is exactly what Venkatesh's family audience usually turns up for, which is why word of mouth over the coming days matters so much.
Why Venkatesh and Trivikram Raised Expectations
Part of the reason the opening is being judged so closely is the pairing itself. Trivikram Srinivas is one of Telugu cinema's most bankable writer-directors, known for dialogue-driven family entertainers, and Venkatesh has been on a strong run with family audiences. Put together, the combination created the kind of buzz that usually translates into a much bigger first day.
The film also opened on a regular Friday rather than a festival weekend, which may have capped its start. Family films in Telugu often grow slowly as word of mouth spreads, so a modest opening does not automatically mean a weak final total.
Competition at the Box Office
AK 47 led a busy weekend. Jailer 2, now in its third week, added Rs 26.40 crore net and has crossed Rs 800 crore worldwide. Ayushmann Khurrana's Udta Teer and Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 3 held on in Hindi markets.
The bigger challenge arrives this week. Ramayana: Part One opens on Thursday with record advance bookings, and Suriya's Scene follows on Friday. Both will eat into screens and shows in the south.
Is AK 47 a Hit? What Happens Next
It is too early to call. Trade reports describe the start as lower than expected for a big-budget Venkatesh-Trivikram project, and warn that distributors could face losses unless the film holds well on weekdays. The key numbers to watch are Monday and Tuesday collections in Nizam and Andhra.
If family audiences keep coming through the week, AK 47 can still build a respectable run before Ramayana takes over screens. If collections drop sharply, the opening weekend may turn out to be its peak.
