Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a packed Sunday across two states. On October 25 he will inaugurate a new women-led garment factory in Varanasi, sit as Chief Guest at the Indian Air Force's Wings Over Ganges aerial display at Namo Ghat, and then fly to Bhubaneswar to open the Reserve Bank of India's new Data Centre and Cyber Security Training Institute.

Each stop speaks to a different priority – jobs in manufacturing, military capability, and the safety of the digital money system that millions of Indians now use every day.

The Day's Schedule

Time (IST)Event
Around 11 amInaugurates Arvind Limited's garment manufacturing facility, Varanasi
Around 1 pmChief Guest at Air Force Day Aerial Display-2026, Namo Ghat, Varanasi
Around 4:45 pmInaugurates RBI Data Centre and Cyber Security Training Institute, Bhubaneswar; addresses gathering

Varanasi: A Women-Led Garment Unit

The first event of the day is in the Prime Minister's own constituency. Textile major Arvind Limited has set up a new apparel manufacturing facility in Varanasi that, according to the government, is predominantly run by women and uses modern manufacturing practices to serve a global customer base.

The government has pitched the plant as a step towards strengthening India's textile and apparel industry and spreading industrial growth beyond the usual hubs. For Varanasi and the surrounding districts, a large employer close to home matters – particularly for women, who are expected to fill most of the new jobs.

Wings Over Ganges at Namo Ghat

At around 1 pm, the Prime Minister will watch the Air Force Day Aerial Display-2026, held this year in Varanasi to mark the 94th anniversary of the Indian Air Force. The theme, Wings Over Ganges, turns the river front into a stage for some of India's most capable aircraft.

What to Look Out For

  • Fighters: Tejas, Su-30MKI and Rafale jets
  • Helicopters: the Light Combat Helicopter Prachand
  • Transport aircraft in formation flypasts
  • Display teams: the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team and the Sarang Helicopter Display Team
  • Joint operations: aircraft from the Indian Army and Indian Navy will also take part, showcasing how the three services work together

Holding the show on the ghats rather than at an air base means thousands of local residents and pilgrims get a front-row view – something that rarely happens outside Delhi.

Bhubaneswar: RBI's Tier IV Data Centre

The evening event may be the one with the longest-lasting impact. In Bhubaneswar, Modi will inaugurate a facility built to handle the Reserve Bank of India's computing needs and to provide a secure, resilient and scalable computing set-up for the central bank and the wider financial sector.

According to the government, the campus houses four data centres that will host mission-critical payment and settlement systems along with other flagship RBI projects. It carries Uptime Institute Tier IV certification – the highest rating for operational resilience – and is described as among the largest Tier IV certified facilities in the banking and financial services sector anywhere in the world.

A New Cyber Security Training Institute

Alongside the data centre, RBI is opening a Cyber Security Training Institute focused on training, research and capacity building in cyber security and enterprise technology. Its curriculum will look ahead to frontier areas such as quantum computing and artificial intelligence and how they affect banking, financial services and insurance.

What It Means for Ordinary Indians

Most people will never see the inside of the RBI data centre, but they rely on it every time money moves. Payment and settlement systems are the plumbing behind bank transfers and digital payments. A Tier IV facility is designed to keep running even during equipment failures or maintenance, which lowers the risk of outages that can freeze transactions.

The timing is also notable. Indian institutions have faced a string of cyber security scares in recent weeks, from a leak of bank customer records to problems with digital certificates, and a dedicated RBI training institute signals that the regulator wants the financial sector to build deeper skills in-house.

What Happens Next

The Prime Minister is expected to address the gathering in Bhubaneswar after the inauguration, where he may set out the government's plans for digital finance and cyber security. His visit to Odisha also comes as the state prepares for a cyclone forecast to approach its southern coast around October 28.
