Ayushmann Khurrana's Udta Teer has found its wings over the first weekend. After a modest Rs 4.10 crore net opening on Friday, October 23, 2026, the spy comedy jumped about 77% on Saturday to collect Rs 7.25 crore net in India, according to trade tracker Sacnilk. That takes the film's two-day domestic total to Rs 11.35 crore net.
The Saturday surge, driven by evening and night shows in big-city multiplexes, suggests word of mouth is working in the film's favour heading into Sunday.

How the Saturday jump happened
Overall Hindi occupancy for Udta Teer climbed through the day on Saturday. Morning shows ran at a sleepy 8.5%, but afternoon shows rose to about 27.6%, evening shows to 33%, and night shows to nearly 42.7%. That pattern – slow mornings, strong nights – is typical of a film that audiences are discovering through friends and social media rather than through a massive opening.
Trade reports point to healthy footfall in Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru and Kolkata. The National Capital Region had the highest number of shows on Saturday at around 950. In all, the film sold an estimated 3.18 lakh tickets on day two.
How it compares with Ayushmann's earlier films
The opening of Rs 4.10 crore placed Udta Teer eighth among Ayushmann Khurrana's biggest openers. It is well short of his best start, Thamma, which opened at around Rs 24 crore net. But Ayushmann has built his career on films that grow over the weekend rather than explode on day one, and the Saturday figure is the kind of trend his fans will recognise.
What is Udta Teer about?
Directed by debutant Akash A Kaushik and produced by Dharma Productions with Sikhya Entertainment, Udta Teer is a family-friendly action comedy. Ayushmann plays Bilal Ahmad, a Pakistani spy who slips into India and loses his memory in an accident – after which he becomes convinced he is an Indian agent named Vikrant. Sara Ali Khan plays his wife, who works in the finance department of India's defence ministry.
The supporting cast includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover and Suhail Nayyar. Sachin-Jigar have composed the music, and the film runs 2 hours 17 minutes with a UA13+ certificate. Critics' reviews have been mixed, which makes the audience-driven Saturday growth all the more significant.
Competition at the box office
Udta Teer is not alone in theatres. Yami Gautam's Nayyi Navelli and Rajkummar Rao's Prahaar – The Ujjwal Nikam Story are in their second week, while Rajinikanth's Tamil blockbuster Jailer 2 continues to dominate nationally. Looming ahead is the much-awaited Ramayana, whose advance bookings are already moving fast.
Why the weekend matters
For a mid-budget comedy, the first weekend usually decides the rest of the run. Multiplex chains adjust show counts on Monday based on how a film performs from Friday to Sunday, so a strong Saturday and a bigger Sunday can protect Udta Teer's screens when new titles arrive. It is also an important outing for Dharma Productions, which has backed the film alongside Guneet Monga's Sikhya Entertainment, and for its lead pair of Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan.
What it means for moviegoers
If you are planning a weekend outing, Sunday evening and night shows are likely to be the busiest, based on Saturday's pattern. Advance sales for Sunday were already ahead of Saturday's start, so booking early in metro cities is a good idea.
What happens next
Trade watchers expect another rise on Sunday. The real test will be Monday: if Udta Teer holds steadily on weekdays, it has a clear runway in the pre-Diwali window before the big festive releases arrive.
